KENNETH M. JOHNS, III, CPCU, ARM, AIM
Chairman of the Board
Mr. Johns serves as Chairman of the Board of Johns Eastern Company, as well as President of JECO Excess Agency, Inc. He joined Johns Eastern Company in 1965 after graduating from Cornell University. He received his CPCU designation in 1978, Associate in Risk Management designation in 1979, and his Associate In Management designation in l989.
Mr. Johns is a frequent speaker, having made presentations to many groups, including the Property Loss Research Bureau, the Risk and Insurance Management Society (RIMS), the Public Risk and Insurance Management Association (PRIMA). He has authored articles which have been published in the Risk and Insurance Management Society magazine, and in the National Underwriter. He is licensed as an adjuster, general lines agent, and surplus lines agent. He is past president of the Suncoast Chapter of the Society of CPCU, and past chairman of the Claims Interest Section of the Society of CPCU. From 1987 through 1993, Mr. Johns served on the Board of Directors of the Florida Association of Self-Insureds, (FASI). He has sat on insurance company boards.
DONALD E. LEDERER, CPCU, AIC, AIM, ARM
President
A graduate of Western Maryland College with a degree in Economics, Mr. Lederer joined Johns Eastern in 1984 as an adjuster. As an adjuster in our Washington, D.C. office, he gained experience handling all lines of claims, specializing in general liability, automobile and property.
In September 1986, Mr. Lederer was transferred to Virginia in order to assist in the opening of our Norfolk location. He was transferred as the Adjuster-in-Charge and was promoted to Branch Manager in January 1988. While managing the Norfolk location, he supervised and handled claims in the areas of professional liability, commercial auto, property, and workers' compensation. In June 1989, Mr. Lederer was transferred to our Washington, D.C. location as Branch Manager. As Manager, he added to his experience by handling medical malpractice claims for a local group of hospitals. As Manager, he directed the development of the company's 'mobile adjuster' concept. This led to the opening of the northern Virginia satellite location.
In December 1997, Mr. Lederer was promoted to Regional Manager. In January 2000, Mr. Lederer was promoted to Vice President of the northern region. His responsibilities included the supervision of our Pennsylvania, Maryland, Washington DC, Virginia, and North Carolina offices. In November 2004, Mr. Lederer was promoted to Executive Vice President. Mr. Lederer is involved with the oversight of the company's three major areas of operations: Branch Operations, Third Party Administration - Self Insured Accounts, and Catastrophe Claims Services. In January 2008, he was promoted to President.
Mr. Lederer earned his Associate in Claims (AIC) designation in February 1991. He earned his Associate in Management (AIM) designation in February 1990. He earned his CPCU designation in 2005 and his ARM designation in December 2007.
BRIAN HARLOW, CPCU, AIC, AIM
Executive Vice President, Field Operations
Mr. Harlow has been with Johns Eastern Company since 1986. He is a graduate of the University of South Florida in Tampa, Florida with a B.A. Degree in Criminal Justice. Before being promoted to Miami as a Branch Manager, Mr. Harlow gained experience in our Lakeland and Sarasota offices.
Mr. Harlow successfully completed the Residential Building Damage Repair Estimating Course at Vale National in 1989. Mr. Harlow is an approved adjuster for the National Flood Insurance Program and is experienced in writing estimates for both commercial and dwelling losses. His experience includes Professional Liability and Medical Malpractice. He is also knowledgeable in handling Business Interruption and Jewelers Block losses.
Mr. Harlow played an integral role in our management team overseeing claims as a result of Hurricane Andrew and Hurricane Irene in Miami. He was also a member of our catastrophe teams that handled Hurricane Georges claims in Mississippi and Hurricane Floyd claims in North Carolina. His casualty experience includes previously supervising all of the losses for Browning Ferris Industries (BFI) in Dade, Broward and Monroe counties. In addition, he managed a large Restaurant Program underwritten by Lloyds of London.
Mr. Harlow was promoted to Assistant Regional Manager in 1998 and to Regional Manager 2004. He was promoted to Vice President in January 2005. Mr. Harlow has achieved his Associate in Claims, Associate in Management, and CPCU designations. In January 2008, he was promoted to Executive Vice President.
BEVERLY ADKINS, AIC, AIM
Executive Vice President, Special Account Services
Ms. Adkins joined Johns Eastern Company in 1986 after graduating from the University of South Florida with a Bachelors of Arts Degree in Finance. She has served in various branch offices, including Tampa, Clearwater, and Jacksonville, Florida.
Ms. Adkins was promoted to Claims Manager of the Orlando Branch in 1990 and Executive Director of Centralized Claims in Sarasota, Florida in 2001. She was promoted to Vice President of Special Account Services in July 2004 and then to Executive Vice President in January 2008.
Ms. Adkins is licensed as an all lines adjuster in Florida. She earned her Associate in Claims Designation in 1989 and her Associate in Management in 1993. She is presently working on her CPCU designation. Ms. Adkins has experience handling all lines, including Workers' Compensation, General Liability, Automobile Liability, Errors & Omissions, Homeowners, and Commercial Property claims.
Ms. Adkins is a member of the Bradenton/Sarasota Claims Association, the Association of Workers' Compensation Claims Professionals and an Associate Member of the Independent Insurance Agents, the Risk and Insurance Management Society, and the Public Risk and Insurance Management Association.
NORMAN A. SENSINGER
Vice President
Mr. Sensinger, a Pennsylvania native, graduated from Lafayette College in 1959 with a degree in Economics following which he attended the Temple University School of Law. He began his adjusting career in 1959 with Crawford and Company, working in the Norfolk and Philadelphia offices until 1963, when he left to join Eastern Adjustment Company.
Mr. Sensinger served Eastern Adjustment Company in a variety of capacities, including Manager of the Philadelphia branch office, Field Supervisor, and Vice President of the company following which he worked in the Home Office in Baltimore, Maryland. He continued in that capacity after Eastern Adjustment Company's acquisition by Johns Eastern Company in 1971. He served as Regional Manager of Operations until he assumed a full-time marketing position in the mid-1980's.
Mr. Sensinger's reputation and knowledge of the client base in the northern part of the country have been important factors in the firm's growth.
STUART E. BAYER
Secretary and Treasurer
Mr. Bayer graduated from the University of Western Ontario in 1990 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry. He then completed his accounting studies at McGill University. While at McGill, he worked as an auditor for the accounting firm of Ernst & Young.
In 1993, Mr. Bayer moved to Florida and began working at the firm of Arthur & Swearingen after successfully completing the CPA exam that same year. At the firm, he performed audits, prepared individual, corporate, and trust tax returns.
In 1997, Mr. Bayer joined Johns Eastern Company as the Controller. He subsequently completed his Florida CPA license requirements in 1999. In 2002, he was elected Secretary/Treasurer. Mr. Bayer is a member of the American Institute of CPAs and the Florida Institute of CPAs.
LAURA K. LOWE, AIM
Director of TPA Operations
Agent, JECO Excess Agency, Inc.
Ms. Lowe began her employment with Johns Eastern Company in 1996. She became an Account Manager in 2000. In 2001, she obtained her 2-20 Agent/All Lines Adjuster License and began writing workers' compensation excess coverage for several of our self-insured clients through JECO Excess Agency, Inc.
In 2006, Ms. Lowe became Manager of Special Account Services. In 2009, Ms. Lowe was promoted to Director of TPA Operations. She is responsible for all aspects of Third Party Administration Services, including Workers' Compensation and Liability Claims, Medical Management, Cost Containment, Pay Department, and Account Management. She also continues in her role as Agent for JECO Excess Agency, Inc. Ms. Lowe currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Florida Association of Self-Insureds (FASI) and is an Associate Member of the Independent Insurance Agents. She is also a member of the Workers' Compensation Claims Professionals (WCCP). She served as Vice President of Bradenton/ Sarasota Claims Association. She is involved with Risk and Insurance Management Society (RIMS), the Public Risk and Insurance Management Society (PRIMA) and the Florida Educational Risk Management Association (FERMA).
Ms. Lowe graduated with Honors from Keiser University with a Bachelors of Arts Degree in Business Administration. Ms. Lowe attained her Associate in Management (AIM) designation through the Insurance Institute of America in May 2011 and is currently pursuing her Associate in Risk Management (ARM) designation.
JIM MILNER, CPCU, AIC, AIM
Director of Field Operations
Mr. Milner graduated from the University of South Florida in May 1991, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance. After working for two years as a stockbroker, he joined Johns Eastern Company in July 1993, as an insurance adjuster.
Mr. Milner has extensive knowledge concerning automobile, general liability and workers' compensation claims. Previously, he was the primary adjuster on two self-insured, governmental-entity accounts handled in our Sarasota branch. Mr. Milner also has a thorough background in the handling of dwelling, commercial building and mobile home property losses. He is approved to handle claims for NFIP and FWUA.
Mr. Milner was promoted to Branch Manager in 2004 and operated a P&C TPA unit for various School Districts, Governmental Entities as well as two Multiple Location Religious Organizations throughout the state of Florida. In 2009, he was promoted to Director of Field Operations overseeing our Field Branch Offices.
Mr. Milner attained his Associate in Claims (AIC) designation from the Insurance Institute of America in 1996, attained his CPCU designation in 2001, and his AIM designation in 2002.
